The blend

Three varieties.
Three estates.
One legacy.

Don Milton Legado is the wine the founder designed himself. The blend was not chosen for elegance; it was chosen for meaning. Tannat, planted in Bolivia for the first time by Aranjuez in 1999. Cabernet Franc, imported and planted at the same time. Bonarda, planted at 2,095 m in Chaguaya in 2010, our first frontier beyond the Tarija floor.

Each varietal is sourced from a different estate. Santa Ana la Nueva — Lot 40 — for the Tannat. El Portillo for the Cabernet Franc. Chaguaya for the Bonarda. The wine is, in effect, a portrait of Aranjuez's three frontiers, in one bottle.

Hand-harvested at night to preserve aromatic precision. Manual berry selection in cellar. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless. Eighteen months in new French oak. Eighteen months in bottle. Released only in years the team agrees the vintage warrants it.

Tasting notes — vintage 2020

Deep, structured,
built to wait.

Color. Ruby of remarkable depth, almost opaque at the rim, with subtle violet refractions that the altitude pigmentation produces.

Nose. Black plum, blackcurrant, an ironwork minerality, sweet tobacco, vanilla cedar from new oak. With air: graphite, dried herb, a high note of violet from the Cabernet Franc.

Palate. Full-bodied, with the polished tannic backbone Tarija altitude is famous for. The Bonarda lifts the mid-palate. The Cabernet Franc tightens the finish. Tannat carries the structure. Long, savoury, complete.

Pairing. Aged ribeye, lamb shoulder, mole negro, hard sheep's milk cheeses. Will improve in bottle for at least another twelve to fifteen years.
